ECON 4160: Seminar Economic Policy: Finding Books

Checking out library items

From Georgia Tech

Your Buzzcard is your Library card.

To check out items at the Georgia Tech Library, bring your Buzzcard to the Library Services Desk, located on the first floor West Wing of the Library.

Regular check out for undergraduates is one semester.  Books will be due at the end of the current semester unless noted or recalled by another patron.

You are guaranteed use of your books for 21 days. If your item is recalled by another patron, please return it to the Library Services Desk by the new recall due date to avoid fines.

Books received through GIL Express or Interlibrary Loan may also be picked up at the Library Services Desk Desk.

Visit the Graduate & Undergraduate Borrowing Privileges page for more information about borrowing from the Georgia Tech Library.

From Other Libraries in Georgia

Items from other University System of Georgia (USG) Libraries and Emory's Main Library (Woodruff) may be checked out in person at these libraries using your Buzzcard.  Items from USG libraries may be returned directly to the library where they were checked out or to the Georgia Tech Library Services Desk.  Items from Emory's library should be returned directly to Emory.

You may borrow items in person from other area university libraries including:

  • Agnes Scott College
  • Atlanta University Center
  • Brenau University
  • Columbia Theological Seminary
  • Emory University (branch libraries)
  • Mercer University (Atlanta Campus)
  • Morehouse School of Medicine
  • Oglethorpe University
  • Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta

Before you visit one of these libraries to check out items, you should visit the Circulation Desk at Georgia Tech to obtain an Inter Library User (ILU) card.  Items checked out from these institutions should be returned directly to the institutions.

Visit the Borrowing & Requesting from Other Libraries page for more information.

Books at the Georgia Tech Library

In order to search the library's holdings for books and other media, use the Georgia Tech Catalog.

Using the GT Library Catalog you can:

  • Find books, electronic books, movies, journals, and more materials owned by the GT Library.
  • Log into your GIL Account to renew items, check your holdings, and more.
  • Look for extra information about holdings including a Table of Contents and sometimes Google Book versions of texts!

Books from Other USG Libraries

If Georgia Tech does not own a book you need, you can see if the item is available in the GIL Universal Catalog, which searches the holdings of the 35 University System of Georgia Libraries.

If you find a book available in the GIL that is held by another library, you can place a GIL Express Request on it to have it delivered to our library for free.

Books from Other Libraries

If you need a book that is not available from Georgia Tech or from the University System of Georgia, you can use the Interlibrary Loan System ILLiad to make a request to have the item loaned from another library.

The time it takes to obtain an Interlibrary Loan item varies, so make sure to make your request early!

For more information about Interlibrary Loan please see Borrowing & Requesting from other Libraries and ILLiad FAQ
